ABOUT

Jess Williams is an artist and photographer from Miami, Florida. His introduction to the art of photography began in 2007 when he was deployed to Afghanistan with the U.S. Army, operating as a combat photographer and journalist. Along with combat photography, Jess has documented major events throughout his military career - the aftermath and relief efforts of natural disasters, along with other high profile missions throughout the world. Jess concluded his twenty year career with the military by leading a team of journalists in Guantanamo Bay where he worked alongside notable media outlets, offering public affairs guidance. Upon returning to the U.S., Jess was able to apply his leadership and organizational skills in order to progress his career to the next level. Since then, he has developed a strong foundation for lighting, movement, and capturing reality beyond the pose.
Currently based in Nashville, TN, his love for photography is ever growing, with an emphasis on music portraiture and commercial advertising. Jess has an acute sense for tones, color and a talent to fuse all elements into a cohesive product. Fun fact: Jess has a unique condition, known as Synesthesia (a perceptual phenomenon experienced by a whopping 2% of the population). With this gift, he is able to visualize color by way of sound, font and numbers. This has been a contributing factor in shaping his body of work. Jess’ work is nothing short of whimsical and fantasy while simultaneously creating a deep window into reality and emotion. The passion, drive, the understanding of light, movement, and subject is prevalent in his work. There is a consistent tone that can be seen throughout his work, which can only be portrayed by an ever present eye, and the passion to see it through.
